THE BEGLEY-NGUYEN ART PRIZE: working with Ciaran Begley, reflecting on the complex economies of interment camp currency and gambling as a form of shared settler-colonial existence. Guest artist Georgia Banks was invited to lead an artist’s gambling event. Using two internment camp coins, a quintesential game of Australian Two-Up (a variant of the Vietnamese two coin toss ‘Sốc Đĩa’) was played to decide a winner from $5 submissions/entry fee made by artists to determine the single winner.

As with most gambling/fund raising events, participants had the capacity to collude and rig the outcome with Matthew Harris & Sarah Brassier taking home the total takings. The project has been exhibited and presented at Kings ARI (2018) and Gertrude Glasshouse as part of the exhibition ‘Remedy for the Doldrums’, curated by Siobhan Sloper (2020)
